Like so many venues, we've been closed since March with no income. August is a traditionally busy time for us and no festivals hits us hard.

We've been a live venue since 1979, welcoming on average 90,000 people through our doors and working with around 3,000 artists, technicians and event staff each year. Our last event was on 15 March. Since then our doors have been closed. Our stage has been empty. Our income has stopped. As an independent charity this is devastating. Thanks to careful management and the government's job retention scheme, we're still here, but not being able to open our doors during August is tough. We are used to hosting the wonderful Edinburgh International Festival Morning Recitals and numerous world-class musicians and comedians as part of the Fringe. By buying a ticket to AJ Bell's Fringe Friday, you'll be helping to support us, but also getting some of the best comedians entertaining you from the comfort of your armchair.
"The Queen’s Hall is one of the most magical places I’ve ever performed. In a world that is filled with franchises and cookie-cutter repetition, the history and vibe of a place like The Queen’s Hall is a rare treasure…" (Beth Nielsen Chapman)
We can't wait to welcome you back through our doors, but we do need your support in the meantime. By buying a ticket to the online comedy shows you will be helping to boost our resilience and getting us one step closer to the day when we're able to welcome you back in again.
We've always welcomed professional and amateur artists of all ages and at all stages of their career on to our stage. We've been working really hard in the past eighteen months to make our venue as accessible as possible to audiences. We want to ensure that post-pandemic, this is still the case and that we can make our A-listed Georgian building as safe as possible for customers, artists and staff whilst still retaining the wonderful acoustic and intimate vibe we're known for.
"There are very few venues in the UK as good as The Queen’s Hall… a lot of new venues just don’t have the same atmosphere…" (Donald Shaw, Celtic Connections)
How we'll use the moneyWe still don't know exactly when we'll be able to reopen and how the social distancing rules will affect our viability when we do. Although we're closed and unable to generate income, our costs don't go away. Any funds raised here help us to continue to weather the storm so that we'll be here for future audiences for another forty years and beyond.
Thank you for your support and enjoy the shows! We hope to welcome you back soon; in the meantime stay safe and well.
