Our devised play Would You Like A Bag? is hitting Fringe in August 2024! We would love your help getting there...
Who are we?
Would You Like A Bag? is a devised play brought to you by Red Lentil Playhouse. We're a brand-new Bristol-based devising company focused on portraying the authentic experiences of students via devised theatre.
Would You Like A Bag?
After years of having some of the most outrageous conversations in corner shops, it struck Rosa (the Director and brain-parent of WYLAB?) that her local bossmen (corner shop keepers) probably know more than she'd realise about her life. In collaboration with the amazing Maddy Morgan (producer), Emma Morgan (script co-ordinator), Gabriella Adaway (assistant producer) and Edie Decosta-Jackson & Dulcie Johnson (assistant directors), as well as our fabulous cast and creative team, concern quickly turned to a big idea and Would You Like A Bag? was born. A play where the audience watches from the advantageous and eye opening perspective of the omniscient shopkeeper.
Over the past few months, our devising techniques have allowed WYLAB? to become a genuine, funny and heartfelt story following eight characters through the trials and tribulations of student life. Our brilliant cast and production team collaborate to combine their personal experiences with their wild imaginations to create this show. We aim to empower and entertain audiences with our (mostly) lovable characters, tackling issues such as friendship, relationships, queer experiences, sexual assault and eating disorders. The play takes place exclusively in a corner shop in a university town. Through a series of vignette scenes, the audience will watch a years-worth of our characters becoming interconnected in ways they would never expect.

The Fringe!
We will be performing at the Haldane Theatre @ The Space from the 12-17th August at 11:45-12:45. We're so excited to share the product of months of devising and hard work to audiences young and old.
We've got buckets of ideas, talent and passion... but not that much cash. Currently, we're self-funded, starting from zero as this is our first production as a company.
All money raised will go towards covering our venue, accommodation, travel, set and costume costs. Any profit will be reinvested into creating more theatre. Fringe will undoubtedly be an expensive time for a gaggle of penniless creative young people, but we are willing to take the risk - the experience will be priceless!
Outgoings:
£900 - travel
£1900 - accommodation for cast and core prod team
£1200 - venue
£500 - set and costume
£200 - marketing
