As a female-led collective, we have worked on a show that explores the tensions around sexual violence against women in public spaces.
Walking Home
Gilded Balloon, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Teviot – Wine Bar
3 - 28 August, 17:30 (60 mins)
Walking Home is a devised performance that explores the politics and tensions within the issue of sexual violence against women and people of marginalised genders.
Why we need your help
We are very grateful to have the support of the Arts Council Malta however bringing actors from overseas to the UK and covering their accommodation costs in the current economic climate is even more difficult than usual. This fundraising will help us cover the cast's travel and accommodation costs for the duration of the Fringe Festival.
We have also partnered with Strut Safe and would love to fundraise enough money to help print flyers and resources to give out after each performance. They are a free, volunteer-operated, and non-judgemental support line, which is why they have limited funds to print resources.
Strut Safe stay on the phone with anyone who calls until they arrive safely at their destination, no matter where they are going or where they have come from. They stand in solidarity with marginalised people and are unaligned with the police. They provide kindness and reassurance to anyone who needs it during their travels.
Why are we telling this story?
It serves as a reaction to Sarah Everard’s journey home, Sabina Nessa’s murder in London, and most recently, Paulina Dembska’s murder in Malta, among so many others – and to the global outpouring of shared grief and anger that has followed these brutal tragedies.
Based on more than 40 true stories of real experiences collected from people of diverse genders, nationalities and walks of life from around the world, Walking Home is a hard-hitting piece of new writing that sheds light on the community's role in this vital conversation – and hopes to help it progress well beyond the stage.
This performance is supported by Arts Council Malta – Programme Support Fund.

About Prickly Pear Productions
MINORITY STORIES • EQUAL REPRESENTATION • FEMALE-LED PRODUCTIONS Prickly Pear Productions is a female-led production company, founded in 2018 with roots in Malta and the UK. Our original productions give a voice to minority groups and their untold stories, spreading awareness and understanding of different peoples, cultures, ethnicities and ways of life, while challenging stereotypes. As storytellers, we believe everyone should feel represented in the arts industry – and that an equal balance of everyone’s stories will only serve to enhance it.
More information is available on our website.
We appreciate anything you can give and thank you in advance.
