Aim

Please help us take THIS IS NOT ABOUT ME, a new rom-com / psychological thriller by Hannah Caplan and WoodForge, to Edinburgh Fringe!

THIS IS NOT ABOUT ME. follows a self-destructive writer trying to dramatise the secrets of her broken friendship. But as passion blurs into obsession, she loses control of the narrative. Should she let the truth get in the way of a good story?

Mind-bending and heart wrenching, this metatheatrical story is a nonlinear love-letter to the creative process that will make you laugh, cry and think.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT ME. will be staged in the Former Women’s Locker Room in Summerhall Arts at 3:20pm from 30th July - 25th August; with a preview at Southwark Playhouse on 24th July.

Why this play? Why now?

We are living in a ‘Post-Truth’ Era. Honesty is under attack and the line between truth and falsity is being deliberately blurred. By abstracting reality,  our political, and thus personal lives continue to be impacted.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT ME. examines truth and honesty, in both an inter-personal and philosophical context. Deconstructing these complicated themes and splicing them neatly into a will they-won’t-they rom-com. This play ensures this necessary conversation is had, understood and enjoyed.

Why we need your support

Edinburgh Fringe is the epicenter of joyful, experimental theatre. We can think of no better place to platform this brilliant debut play. However, taking a show to the festival is a costly endeavour.

It is an honor to have been chosen as recipients of the Keep it Fringe Fund. Their support has alleviated some of our upfront costs however, we are still £8000 short. In order to get to Edinburgh and ensure this show lives up to its massive potential, we need your help.

Your donation will help cover the following costs:

Creative: To help fairly compensate for the talent and hard work of our stellar creative team and performers.

Venue: To help secure our venue at Summerhall Arts.

Marketing: To help promote this show and platform the talent of our wonderful team to the widest audience possible.

Mixed media assets: To pay for filmed content, projection software, handmade puppets, paper mache masks and an intricate crochet set.

We would be deeply appreciative of any and all donations — big or small. As the cost of living continues to rise we understand that times are tight. If you are not able to make a donation, please help share our campaign far and wide.

Access and Sustainability

We’re excited to make this play sustainable and accessible in the following ways.

Radical Accessibility: We are engaging with new ways of making our work accessible. We are creating an immersive, textured set that our audience can read through touch and sight. We are also exploring how to implement creative captioning into this and future versions of this show..

Sustainability: We are working in accordance with the intermediate level of the Theatre Green Book and ensuring we reuse or recycle at least 60% of everything used on-stage.

What will the play’s future be?

We believe that the experimental nature of our play is best housed within unique, found spaces. Our production at Fringe will be staged in the Former Women’s Locker Room in Summerhall Arts — a repurposed space renowned for staging genre-bending work. We aim to continue sourcing and revitalising neglected sites for future productions.

We proudly stand behind the astounding talent of our entire creative team. Edinburgh Fringe is the perfect opportunity to springboard our careers and this show to the next-level. We hope that a successful run of THIS IS NOT ABOUT ME. at Edinburgh Fringe will allow us to gain a theatre association in London and enable us to deepen our existing creative relationships with our current supporters.

Thank you so much for supporting our play.

Together, we can keep theatre alive.
