We want to be able to be able to take our emotional, humorous and thought provoking shows to as wide an audience as possible.
Our team consists of the members led by myself (The Manager) and our founder and Chairman (Blair Christie) but all the work is created and performed by the members. For our latest project, The Van - a 5 minute film created and shot entirely during lockdown, we had to embrace new technologies and a new way of working. Many faced personal challenges during the making of this film and all met them head on. Our 2019 Edinburgh Fringe show, Raised Voices - Real Lives, received such widespread acclaim that many of the audience almost demanded that it should be performed on a larger stage outside of The Fringe. We have been contacted by theatres that have links to mental health charities and we want to help them encourage their own members and performers to challenge their individual and collective abilities to write, direct and perform. Raised Voices members have faced some daunting challenges over recent years, creative and personal, and they have all benefited from meeting those challenges head on. The impact our programmes have on our members self confidence, self esteem and self worth is huge. Some have found employment, some are volunteers, some are now care workers themselves. We know we can help others do the same, even if it is only performing in their theatres and donating the proceeds to that charity. To do this we must branch out.
