Help Us Bring The Three Marias Back to the Edinburgh Fringe
Last year, we brought The Three Marias to the Edinburgh Fringe and were overwhelmed by the response from audiences. This year, we're excited to return and continue sharing this important story.
About the Show
The Three Marias is a play written by Eduarda Nogueira and inspired by Novas Cartas Portuguesas (New Portuguese Letters), the groundbreaking book by Maria Isabel Barreno, Maria Teresa Horta, and Maria Velho da Costa.
Together, these three Portuguese writers challenged censorship, dictatorship, and the silencing of women through their words. Their courage transformed them into symbols of resistance and made Novas Cartas Portuguesas a landmark work of feminist literature.
Why This Story Matters
When we discovered the story behind Novas Cartas Portuguesas, we were deeply moved by the courage of the Three Marias and their determination to speak out despite the risks they faced.
Their story inspired us to create this piece and share their legacy with new audiences. More than fifty years later, their words continue to resonate and remind us of the importance of freedom of expression, equality, and the power of women's voices.
While rooted in Portuguese history, their story speaks to people everywhere. Through this production, we hope to celebrate their legacy and spark conversations that remain just as relevant today.
What We Need Your Help With
This year, we're raising £500 to secure the rights to Novas Cartas Portuguesas, an essential step in bringing the production back to the Edinburgh Fringe.
Every donation will go directly towards covering these rights and ensuring we can continue honouring the work and legacy of the Three Marias.
How You Can Help
