Get 12 disabled/neurodiverse performers to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with their original play, "Reel to Real".
Our recent show, ‘Reel to Real’ was a huge success. Now, we want to take it to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe so we can share the story with more audiences and continue to challenge misconceptions about disability.
‘Reel to Real’ is an original play following a group of film-makers who explore a mysterious film studio archive - seeing technical innovations like the kinetoscope, the talkies, and technicolour; meeting figures like Charlie Chaplin, Ginger Rogers, and Alfred Hitchcock along the way. Through their journey they learn the importance of creativity, friendship and making your voice heard. The piece blends theatre, dance, movement, and mixed-media projections to tell the story.
Performing at the Festival is famously an expensive, but infinitely valuable experience. For disabled performers, who require:
- additional support staff
- additional space (e.g. sensory spaces)
- additional processing time
- adapted performance spaces
the costs are even higher.
This isn't just backing an inspiring group of performers to gain visibility at the world’s largest arts festival, it's about creating a more inclusive and representative creative industry.
