Aim

We want to premiere our play at the Edinburgh Fringe and start an important conversation... without going bankrupt!

Hallo!

We’re Emmeline, Jack and Carrie, and we’re premiering our debut play, We Had Fun, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year (at some point, if we say it enough, it’ll start to feel real).

We’ve been developing this bad boy for 4 years including several R&D weeks (supported by ACE) with specialist experts and an amazing creative team, and now Summerhall have programmed us for the full run!

As you can imagine, this opportunity is huge. We want to build momentum for a tour next year, and all of this could be life-changing for us!

However, in news that will surprise literally no one: the Fringe is prohibitively expensive for working-class ‘blue-haired types’ (cheers Grandad) like us.

We’re working extremely hard to secure funding from various pots, but in order to cover accommodation costs, transport and necessary expenses, we still need to crowdfund a huge chunk of the budget.

Annnnnnnnd as we’re allergic to just asking for cash, we’ve decided to crowdfund with a twist where everyone benefits somehow (because let’s be real, good karma points don't pay your bills any more than exposure pays ours).

And that, friends, is where you come in...

Please look through the rewards at the bottom of this page and buy something you actually want, or recommend to a friend, and the money will come to us to get the show on the road at long last.

Or if you do have cash to spare, we're grateful for all donations, big or small!

Rewards:

  • New rewards will be added throughout the campaign, so keep checking back!
  • The 'estimated delivery date' we've listed on each reward is the last possible delivery date, but we are trying to arrange each reward as and when they are purchased (excluding group calls). If you need the reward by a certain date, email us ahead of purchasing.
  • If you want to offer a lower price for any of the rewards, please email us your offer and if the reward is not snapped up for the listed price by 31st August, we will contact the highest bidder and amend the price to the one offered.
  • If you have a reward you can donate, please email us
  • If there are certain services, products or merch you would buy if we had it, again, email us!
  • If you donated a reward and it's not yet listed here, it will be!

All emails should be sent to [email protected]

About the play

Where did it all go wrong? Well, it depends who you ask. Close friends Oscar and Ela navigate the fallout of a drunken sexual encounter as their conflicting versions of events are replayed, rewound and re-written against the sensory medley of a wild night out.

Olivier & Tony nominated Carrie-Anne Ingrouille (SIX the Musical) directs the World Premiere of this distinctly un-romantic dark comedy and ‘fascinating exploration’ (Daniel Finkelstein, The Times) of the greyest areas of consent and sexual politics.

Why this, why now?

  • In 2019, Emmeline made a BFI short film about consent (Keep Breathing) which went viral with 3M+ views.
  • In 2022, clips were taken out of context and hijacked by the 'manosphere' on TikTok as “evidence” of how easily women can falsify rape claims.
  • This happened against the backdrop of the Depp v Heard trial, which opened up a terrifying rabbit hole that inspired the play.
  • Now, with so much noise and disinformation (along with harrowing public inquiries) all over the media, people are more vocal about problematic sexual behaviour and gendered violence than ever, yet nothing seems to change.
  • Everyone’s screaming into different echo chambers, terrified of cancellation... so how can the conversation evolve if we’re all shouting but not listening?
  • With WHF, we want to cut through the noise and open a dialogue about the real, messy, human grey areas and nuances that are weaponised in courtrooms, and that newspaper headlines shy away from... and ultimately challenge our own ingrained assumptions.

No passive responses will be tolerated - we’ll get people talking if it kills us!

P.s. Huge heartfelt thank you to all our amazing friends who donated their talent, time and tat for us to list as rewards. Some of them are incredible freelancers or small businesses - please do check them out.

P.p.s Please follow us on social media and share our posts so your friends can access fab rewards too!
