I'm crowdfunding in order to head to Edinburgh Fringe for the first time as Plymouth Laureate with my new play Breathless
My new play Breathless has won a National Partnership with Pleasance & Theatre Royal Plymouth. The National Partnerships see the Pleasance work with important venues nationwide to identify, recognise and fund extraordinary work from across the UK to be presented at the Festival.
Despite support I need to raise money to pay a local creative team to present the play at Theatre Royal Plymouth in July and at Pleasance Courtyard through August at the Fringe. I want to do Plymouth proud by attending as Plymouth Laureate and amplifying theatre as the first playwright in the role!
Breathless is a about the knife-edge of hoarding, and in this case, clothes hoarding, from the joy to the addiction and suffocating shame. It's based on my own experience of hoarding.
In December I presented a 20-minute version of the play and it had some wonderful audience reactions:
“I am blown away. Such beautiful and tender details. I would love to see it as a full-length piece. I’m excited to see where it goes.”
“That was amazing! Amazing mix of humour, honesty and education. The writing was phenomenal. Perfect.”
“Funny. VERY FUNNY, and relatable, like chatting with some mates.”
“I thought it was exceptional and a polished piece of writing that merits much wider traction and exposure.”
“I loved how revealing it was to parts of life people don’t often talk about and how subjects were explored in a comedic, sensitive and self-aware way.”
I would appreciate any support, however small.
