Mothman: A Romance Musical is a new comedy musical written by Alex Franklin and Nikola McMurtrie - Help us bring it to Edinburgh Fringe!
Do you like musicals? Do you like comedy? Do you like the lesser known West-Virginian cryptid Mothman? If you like just TWO of those three then why not consider donating to help get Mothman: A Romance Musical to the Edinburgh Fringe 2026!
Mothman: A Romance Musical is a surrealist comedy about three friends searching for the legendary Mothman - the show explores strong themes of identity, sexuality and self-acceptance through a kaleidoscopic blend of emotional ballads, unnecessary dance numbers, and a frankly frustrating amount of costumes, props, and blood. It’s written and created by Alex Franklin ("deeply affecting and incredibly funny" - The Wee Review, ★★★★★), and Nikola McMurtrie (Funny Women Awards Winner, Sketch Off 3rd Place, Musical Comedy Awards Finalist). We’ve also managed to drag in Alex Prescot (Musical Comedy Awards finalist) and Hudson Hughes (Double Sketch Off finalist) as well as a whole host of incredible others helping out behind the scenes.
After four sold-out work in progress shows, we’re making the big jump and taking it up to Edinburgh Fringe for the whole month! Hooray!
Unfortunately, doing a musical at Edinburgh Fringe is very expensive! :( Booray :(
We luckily managed to get Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Keep It Fringe funding of £2,500 (See! Women are good!), but sadly this only covers a fraction of our costs. All in all, we’ve totaled the costs of our show to be at least £15,000. These include:
£3,000 - Edinburgh accommodation
£5,839 - Venue deposit
£2,000 - Production company cost
£2,000 - PR cost
£1,200 - 4 Headset mic hire
£1,016 - Registration and Brochure entry
£880 - Print costs (Posters and Flyers)
£650 - Technicians for the show
£200 - Set/ props/costumes
And a bunch of other, more boring costs (trains, smoke machine fluid, protection from the mob, etc.).
Honestly, if we could front the costs, we really would - but Nikola is poor and Alex has wasted her money on hormones and trans stuff. We would even do an ad halfway through the show telling people to use SquareSpace, if they were willing to sponsor us (or even another, more evil company??), but they are yet to respond to our emails.
That’s why we’re coming to you, the public, our favourite people, to potentially donate to making our silly, unnecessary, eccentric comedy musical happen. We totally understand if you don’t donate, but it would genuinely mean the world to us if you are able to.
What do you get if you donate? Aside from our undying love and support we have various rewards!
Thanks so much for reading all this. Again, if you can give anything to help this stupid dream materialise, that would be wonderful - but if you can’t, do not worry your heart at all; and see you at the show maybe?? Xx
Love from your Mothman crew,
Alex F, Nikola, Alex P, Hudson <3
