Following a run at The Hope Theatre in London, Madame La Mort is going to the 2026 Edinburgh Fringe!
Synopsis
Madame La Mort is a new translation and modern adaptation of Rachilde's 19th century French Symbolist play. Written by Nathan Harris, the play builds from Rachel's symbolist text and reimagines it through experimental prose, movement, and recorded sound.
The production invites audiences into an intimate encounter with addiction, care, and emotional dependency, without moralising or simplification. Using a blend of psychological realism and fragmented, symbolist theatre, the audience experiences the story from inside the characters’ emotional logic rather than observing it from a distance.
Artistic Development
The project has undergone extensive development, with a rehearsed reading in Oxford to a short run at The Hope Theatre in London. At the centre of this process has been a large, interdisciplinary writers' room made up of translators, playwrights, composers, dramaturge and performers.
This run at the Edinburgh Fringe represents a deliberate transition from student-scale production, allowing us to build professional relationships and reach audiences beyond Oxford.

Funds received will go directly towards the cost of venue hire and accommodation, as well as transport and production costs for the week-long run at the Edinburgh Fringe.
