Our project aims to help us find accommodation in Edinburgh, for the duration of the Edinburgh Fringe

In November of 2022, Miguel Mota, Morgan Turner and Luke Feechan Founded Trouble In The Square, a theatre company based in Portsmouth. Living in this city means to be surrounded by all sorts of war memorabilia from WWII. War seems ever closer to us now, the recent events in Ukraine echoing some of Europe’s darkest history. We want to ask what it means to be a soldier, what happens to someone's identity at war, what it means to grow disproportionately older, as so many soldiers do in comparison to civilians. 

Rather than depicting the vague unknown warriors carved in memorial statues, Il Burattino tells the stories of individuals who fought for life and the pride of their country; people with dreams, families and traumas whose nuances cannot be fully realised in stone. Stories about the Second World War are often told from the perspective of the allies, but rarely from the side of failure; the side of the people who knew they were fighting for nothing but destructive ideologies and tyrannical regimes. Il Burattino tells the stories of three such soldiers who come to realise they have lost everything, lost who they are, lost their dreams.

In order to be able to put this production on, we have had help from sponsors, and donators.  Even though we have had the honour to secure the venues at the fringe festivals and guildhall through the help of our sponsors, it has still been a hard path to cross, and at the moment we need to hit the £5,000 target so we can cover all expenses in Edinburgh, and all help is welcome.

If we get the money we will be able to accommodate the company... even if that means we have to stay at a camp sight.
