We are raising money to help us to take Godot is a Woman to Edinburgh Fringe 2022!

by Silent Faces Theatre in London, Greater London, United Kingdom

We're still collecting donations

On the 8th July 2022 we'd raised £1,630 with 41 supporters in 28 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

After two years of waiting we are finally able to take Godot is a Woman to Edinburgh Fringe, but we need your help!

ABOUT THE SHOW

Since Samuel Beckett wrote Waiting for Godot, he and his estate have notoriously challenged - often legally - non-male companies that wish to perform it. In Godot is a Woman, Silent Faces playfully explore authorial copyright, gender barriers in the arts and the cultural significance of Madonna’s 1989 album, Like a Prayer.

It's 2022 and we're still waiting. Samuel Beckett? thank u... next.

Godot is a Woman is a love/hate letter to British theatre, exploring permission, patriarchy and pop music. Silent Faces return to the UK stage with their trademark style of playful and political physical theatre.

The critics loved it...

“CHEEKY AND GEEKY” ★★★★ The Guardian

“RICHLY COMIC” ★★★★ The Stage

“NOTHING SHORT OF A MASTERPIECE” ★★★★★ Get the Chance

“WILL HAVE YOU LAUGHING ALL EVENING AND ARGUING ALL NIGHT” The Spectator

WHO ARE SILENT FACES?

Silent Faces is a theatre company formed in 2015 by Cordelia Stevenson, Josie Underwood and Jack Wakely. We describe our work as physical, political, fooling: socially engaged devised theatre which says something, often without saying anything. We are a female and non-binary led, integrated company of disabled and non-disabled artists. Our work has been supported by Arts Council England, The Cockayne Foundation, Garfield Weston, The Pleasance, Camden People’s Theatre and New Diorama and received critical acclaim from The Guardian, The Stage, The Scotsman, Exeunt and The Spectator. WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP

We are so proud of this show and the incredible group of people who have helped get it this far. We now want to give as many people as possible the chance to see it!

This is our biggest project and show to date and Edinburgh Festival Fringe is an incredible platform for it. As the largest arts festival in the world - and after the hardships of the past couple of years - the 2022 festival will be an opportunity to share Godot is a Woman with a huge range of audiences, plus programmers for further touring. But... it all costs and with the rocky road we have all just travelled - and with no ACE funding available to England-based companies in Scotland - we need a little help getting back on our feet.

THE MONEY

We're aiming to raise £2,000 with this crowdfunder, which will help us travel the show (and the cast!) to Edinburgh,  get the word out to audiences so they know when and where to see us, pay for the insurance in case anything goes wrong and spend time in the rehearsal room making the show the best it can be!

THE RISK

The £2,000 we're hoping to raise here works out as just 10% of the total budget to take the show to the festival. We have a fantastic backing from The Pleasance as part of their Futures Season and will also be doing further fundraising, but we will be hugely reliant on ticket sales in Edinburgh to make the show a success.

We are confident that the show can be successful with some incredible reviews under our belt and a good amount of investment in some brilliant marketing and PR.

If we are unable to raise enough funds, the three company directors will not take a fee for this project - including producing, rehearsal and performance.

REWARDS!

Rewards can be a funny thing when crowdfunding for a project like this. This time we are actively trying to resist rewards that are less eco-conscious - things such as t-shirts, posters and other merchandise.

The main thing we want to do is say a HUMONGOUS thank you, but there are still some things along the way including... being named as a supporter in our online programme, the chance to be one of the first to get your hands on our soon-to-be-published Godot is a Woman playtext and tickets to the show in Edinburgh or at a performance of your choice in the future!

Take a little looksie on the right hand side...

If you're able to make a donation, thank you so much. If money's tight right now you can also help us by sharing the project far and wide with your networks and on social media.

Thank you for reading and we hope to see you in Edinburgh!
