Help us get our play 'Gate Number 5' to Edinburgh Fringe in August 2023.
Hi all,
My name is Henriette Laursen and I'm the creative head behind Gate Number 5. The show originated as an 8-minute monologue based on true events. After performing the original monologue, I got hooked, wanting to make it into a 40-minute monologue, which later developed into a 1-hour performance.
The piece is about a half-live, half-virtual interracial queer love story between a white and a black immigrant. The audience become a passenger on a funny and heartfelt journey from the couple's first date to a loving, cheeky, honest (sometimes too honest) lesbian relationship, told in a mix of film, visual media and live performance. Inspired by true events, prepare to fall in love as they begin their extraordinary, almost too good to be true, love story that leads them through life to gate number 5.
It was, from the get go, important for me to create a queer story, without it being about them being queer. It's simply about their love and life struggles. As I began writing the piece, I was then inspired to incorporate different medias, I thought fitted the narrative well, diving head first into the world of digital theatre mixed with a live performance.
With about 15 characters in total (so far), only one character is present on stage.
We are a diverse team consisting of queer females, non-UK born males and females, as well as UK-born creatives.
Here's the main team:
Writer: Henriette Laursen
Cast: Princess McDonnough & Henriette Laursen
Director: Rasheka Christie-Carter
Co-Producer: Callista Saputra
DOP: Vincent Rosec
Movement Director: Line Guld Hedegaard
If we manage to secure the crowdfunding, we'll be able to bring the main team to Edinburgh, marketing our performance, optimise our chances of later touring this show in the UK and Europe and overall create the greatest show possible.
