Help us bring our brand new sketch comedy show "This Isn't Working" to the Edinburgh Fringe 2023!
Following last year's success with our show "Now: Shame", we decided to make a triumphant return to the Fringe (that's how we'd describe it at least). With a brand-new hour of weird and wonderful sketches filled with absurd characters, this year's show is bigger, bolder, and even better.
We're playing at the lovely Greenside @Infirmary St from 4th-19th August at 11.05pm, and we hope to see some of you there!
Painfully overqualified Sandy Surname has reskilled, rethought and rebooted, but is still struggling to find work. Luckily, the crack team at the local job centre has a range of positions which would be “absolutely perfect” for him. Despite his best efforts Sandy soon realises – this isn’t working. Following Sandy’s various trial shifts, “This Isn’t Working” is an absurdist romp through the bumpy world of job-seeking. Consisting of punchy visual gags, a smorgasbord of narrative sketch scenes, our show has something for everyone.
As Sandy embarks on his job hunt, he must select the next town crier for the hamlet of Grimswald, undergo a baffling recruitment interview at MI5, and rescue the sinking crew of HMS Catastrophe while supporting its unstable captain through a painful breakup.
Our previous shows have succeeded through clever staging, fast and seamless transitions, and impactful yet simple costume design. “This Isn’t Working” is no different, using the limitations of a Fringe show to our advantage. As the show weaves through our protagonist’s burgeoning career(s), farce, character comedy, and audio scenes will hurry the production along at a breakneck pace.
FaceOddity Productions was founded in 2021 by two like-minded friends who met at university (in Edinburgh of all places) with a variety of interests and strengths, as well as a combination of skillsets. Since then, the company has grown to include:
Fergus Head – Performer/Writer
Actor, avid archaeologist, amateur alpinist (at least one of those is true).
Michael Zwiauer – Producer/Director/Writer
Writer, wig-maker, wizard (none of those are particularly true).
Tom Hindle - Performer/Writer
Telepath, empath, garden path (none of those are empirically proven).
Will Peppercorn – Performer/Writer
Film-maker, moon-raker, bun-baker (completely irrelevant whether true or not).
Dan Barber – Performer/Writer
Bell-ringer, bather, blues musician (He thinks one of those is true).
Max Walker – Writer
Journalist, jogger, jewel (all true).
Why we need your help
Your help, however much or little, would go a long way in dealing with the various expenses involved in staging a show at the fringe – from accommodation to venue fees, from costumes and props to marketing costs.
