Support Don’t Tell Dad About Diana, a new Irish comedy debut, on its journey to Edinburgh Fringe 2025 with Underbelly!

by Don't Tell Dad About Diana in London, Greater London, United Kingdom

Don’t Tell Dad About Diana is a fast-paced comedic two-hander written and performed by Irish artists Hannah Power & Conor Murray.

Set in Dublin, 1997. Two Friends prepare to compete for the crown of Alternative Miss Ireland with their Princess Diana drag act, under the nose of their hardline nationalist families. As they race through the city towards competition night, Diana’s death sparks the unravelling of their secret, their friendship and their plans to leave Ireland.

At its heart, this is a story about a formative friendship on the cusp of great change. It’s about the choice between leaving home in search of something new or staying behind to try and build something better. A dilemma that has defined our friendship and that of many of our peers.

Beyond the big questions, it’s also an absolute blast! Our camp, chaotic, coming-of-age joyride is coming to the Underbelly Theatre for the full month of the Edinburgh Fringe.

Our Story

Originally conceived in our final weeks of drama school, the idea began after we watched a particularly gripping episode of Reeling in the Years: 1997  (A show that summarises global events through the lens of Irish Media television clips). It was the year of Ireland’s first gay kiss on Fair City, Eurovision on home turf, and the Spice Girls dominating the charts, but it was the People’s Princess who captivated us most. A new fixation on Princess Diana offered the perfect distraction from graduate showcases and the terrifying, dog-eat-dog agent hunt.

Meanwhile, a year-long stint in London explaining the difference between the North of Ireland and the Republic, stirred up every nationalist bone in our bodies. The combination of these factors meant that as graduation approached and the need for distraction grew evermore intense, the seed for Don’t Tell Dad About Diana was born.

Since then, we've performed as part of Dublin's Scene + Heard Festival, Pleasance Scratch in London, and had a sold-out run at Camden People’s Theatre. We are now ready to make our Edinburgh Fringe Debut, but getting there is costly.

What would your support mean?

Edinburgh Fringe is an expensive endeavour for independent artists but it remains one of the most important festivals for emerging theatre. It offers us a chance to share this new play on an international stage, connect with new audiences, and open the door to future touring opportunities.

We have both invested in the show with money from our day jobs, second jobs, side hustles, side-side hustles and childhood piggy banks because we believe in this show with our whole hearts. This covers our insurance, registration, marketing & PR fees, travel and accommodation. But the reality is: bringing a show to the world’s biggest arts festival comes with a price tag we can’t meet alone.

Your support will go towards the extensive costs of bringing a show to Edinburgh Fringe:

Venue Fees (renting our slot at the venue for a month-long run) – £2,500

  • Fees for our creative team (excluding ourselves), helping to cover travel and time during tech and opening – £1,500

Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to our Edinburgh debut and helps make new Irish theatre a central part of this year's festival.

Thank you so much for your support and we’d love to see you there Xx  Tickets HERE
