WHO ARE PLASTER CAST THEATRE?

Well... It's us!

Plaster Cast is an award-winning company led by us, Lizard and Ayden, formed in 2018. We make work that is anti-capitalist, queer as hell, and demands an urgency for change. We are committed to creating inclusive work which stands in solidarity with marginalized people, and to reach those estranged from traditional dialogues.  We aim to be an example for radical visions of how the arts industry and society could operate, and use our platform to engage, educate and equalise. Our practice heavily features physical theatre, movement and devising, as well as punk music!

Our break-out hit Sound Cistem from 2019 premiered at Edinburgh Festival Fringe and was a queer celebration of our trans bodies, rejecting conformity and shame.

And our new show is...

Where Sound Cistem was all about our bodies, this one is all about our sexualities.

We spoke to a wide range of queer people - queer people of colour, queer people of different genders, queer people of different abilities and neurodiversities, queer people who participate in kink, queer people who have multiple partners, queer people who don't have partners - and we asked each of them what intimacy meant to them. What we found was a radical interpretation of desire and 'love', and so in our signature mix of verbatim, dance and song, we are bringing their stories to centre stage.

Talking with our incredible queer community about the lineage and future of queerness, vulnerability and the radical nature of pleasure and desire, has been such a life-changing experience that we’ll never be the same. We hope audiences will laugh, cringe, maybe cry, and queer people will see themselves represented onstage.

We are staging a queer revolution at the Fringe!

Why Edinburgh?

We are so excited to be returning to Edinburgh Fringe with our new show, after 3 years. Fringe launched Plaster Cast's careers and it really is the best home for a show as urgent and as demanding as this. We want it to reach as many people as possible, aiming to do a tour of our work later in the year, and this is the perfect place as an emerging company to connect with audiences and industry alike.

We are so thrilled to be a part of Pleasance Futures Season this year, which is a huge step for our company especially as this is only our second full length show!

So... why do we need your help?

We have tried as best we can for the past 2 years to keep ourselves and our collaborators afloat as an independent queer theatre company, which has been no easy feat! This is the last bit we need to get us up to the Fringe this year, which we have been working towards all year! This fundraiser means we can be comfortable in our company's ability to provide the best for our artists, rather than struggling to make ends meat.

We're aiming to raise £2,500 in this fundraiser which will

  • Cover trains to & from the Festival
  • Contribute to our PR & Marketing fees
  • Contribute to our lodging fees, assuring we can reside safely in the city centre as Queer artists
  • Help out with our team's fees and daily expenses at the Festival

By backing this project, you will be directly supporting a team of entirely Trans artists, making work about being Queer.

The Rewards

We've put time and effort into making these rewards as relevant, fun, and sustainable as possible.

But we also hope that you know that no amount is too small. If you even can spare £1, it is so so so greatly appreciated. It will make SUCH a difference!

Even if you can't donate, please do share this with as many people in your networks as possible!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING!

BIG QUEER LOVE!
