This is a brand new theatre show that we want to bring to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2022!
What's "Chicago, Chicago!" all about?
Set in (you guessed it) Chicago, nineteen-year-old Lulu is applying for job after job. None of which are successful. On her way to yet another job interview, Lulu bumps into a group of women who work at a strip bar. After chatting to them, and long internal worries about what people (especially her parents) may think, she takes up a job working at the strip bar. With Lulu's fresh perspective, the women realise the way they are treated by the men around them is unacceptable and take matters into their own hands, deciding to put on the famed show, (you probably guessed again) Chicago. Lulu learns to deal with, and push back at the reality of how women are treated in the modern-day, for expressing their sensuality.
The play at its core is about women owning who they are, showing off their sensual side without embarrassment, refusing to be shamed by men for what they do for a living and how they express themselves.
Behind "Chicago, Chicago!"
"Chicago, Chicago!" was written by young creative, Rosie Mackay. The idea came after she was listening to Cell Block Tango and thought about how women are being ridiculed for expressing their sensuality, yet simultaneously having their bodies constantly sexualised. The aim of this play is to show all women that they should not be ashamed of expressing themselves.
A bit about us
"Chicago, Chicago!" is being produced by Name Pending Entertainment Ltd. We are a new and upcoming production company that was set up by two friends, working in the creative industry, wanting to make work for brilliant creatives who are finding their feet in the creative industry. "Chicago, Chicago!" will be our first production to come to the fringe (but hopefully not our last!) and we believe that the show perfectly fits with our narrative of wanting to tell stories that haven't been told before and building an understanding between people.
What your money will be used for
Name Pending Entertainment Ltd was set up as a company this year, so we rely on crowdfunding campaigns and sponsors to produce our work. Your money will be going towards the expenses of putting on a show; venue hire, registration fees, music licence costs, wardrobe and props costs and marketing costs. By donating you will be helping young creatives 'get their foot in the door' of the creative industry. We explain our costs more in-depth in our video.
