Aim

We are bringing an original play to Edinburgh this year. At the current stage, we need funding desperately to support it!

Buttalk is a play that I had the plan to write since the first day I came to United Kingdoms. Basically, it talks about two anthromorphic butt cheeks, going abroad to UK to study, striving to get a master degree in theatre. Which is basically me. The whole ensemble is made of Asian international students, and as a participant of theatre, from a completely different culture, I personally experienced the difficulty of the cultural clash, the unintentional racism,(not because they don't actually respect us, but because the objective conditions - people don't really know about us), and the tough circumstances under such a crazy world. Our show is intended on showing people who we are, and just show people how we are so similar, that we both live in the same world and chase the same dreams. Nationality doesn't matter, language doesn't matter, we are all a same group of people, all the way across the world.

You might wanna ask: why butt cheeks? It all began with a fourteen-hours flight, directly from my home Hangzhou to London, in the economy class. My butt cheeks squeezed in the seat too much, that I could barely feel them after I arrived. The butt cheeks experienced more challenges, if you're interested, please join us for a show.

Another thing is that our show combines theatre with Chinese crosstalk. Crosstalk is a very traditional art form in China, which is kind of similar to Vaudeveuille.  I figured that with this special form of art, the storytelling of this play would go upstage in a different level.

If we raise enough money, we would use it to pay for our accomodation in Edinburgh, our marketing, our props and stage design. As a group of 5, we had to rent a place for the show, which is really above our budget, even though the landlord is already very kind and generous to us. At the very early stage of the preperation, our show had very limited stage design and props - we already know that we won't have much of a budget; however, during the whole adaptaion, we figured that the best performances comes with a cost. If we wanted the best quality, we would need to bring in props and stage designs. We would be really thankful if we could have budget on that.
