Aim
Support 'Boxed In': a rich, funny and darkly surreal portrayal of life with OCD by emerging writer and performer Rebecca Weston Wright.
WHO AM I?
I am a young professional writer and performer, currently trying to forge my creative path and pursue my dreams.
With training from the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in Los Angeles, my recent credits include a fantastic run of the play in London's Off West End (Old Red Lion Theatre, Angel).
My artistic interests include elevating working class, female and LGBT voices, surrealist theatre, and themes of isolation, loneliness and apathy in a frenetic modern world.
ABOUT 'BOXED IN':
'Boxed In' is a brand-new surrealist dark comedy, coming soon to Edinburgh Fringe Festival! Flipping the script on the traditional one-woman play format, it offers a truly unique perspective on mental health and anxiety, shining a light on both the wit and the wiles of our most damaging – and, perhaps incredibly, our most protective - parts.
In a world where mental health is often reduced to social media soundbites, Boxed In offers a rich, funny and incredibly original exploration of life with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and the thoughts which keep sufferers from moving on with their lives.
WHAT INSPIRED 'BOXED IN'?
Diagnosed with OCD in my early twenties, it has been a constant source of frustration to me how misunderstood this debilitating condition really is; the special thing about 'Boxed In' is its capacity to reframe it through a different lens. Using voiceovers played as audio cues, the audience is taken into the ‘mind prison’ of OCD, watching as the main character 'A' is trapped in a relentless series of compulsions, obsessions and repetitious behaviour – all alongside an oddly talkative, witty and incredibly annoying wooden Box which sits centre stage.
