Aim

After missing Ed Fringe 2025, Black Bright are returning with a reworking of The Hunger. Please help us cover our accommodation costs!

Mysterious diseases? Isolated farmhouses? A constant threat of danger? Yes, these things may be scary, but the thing that scared us most...paying for fringe accommodation!

Black Bright Theatre Company are bringing a reimagining of our critically acclaimed debut show ‘The Hunger’ to Edinburgh! The ‘Nasty Women’ (Starburst Magazine) are back for a 75 minute one act production at The Space @ Niddry Street for 15 shows only! Please help us to cover the costs of accommodation to ensure our female/queer/neurodivergent led theatre company can secure safe, comfortable accommodation during our Fringe run 🙏🏻.

All images are from the original show run in 2023.

The Show

Megan and Deborah live alone on their farm in the Yorkshire Dales. What was once their home has now become their only refuge from an increasingly dangerous outside world. They have their farm, their food and each other. But when their fragile harmony is sent into a dark, downward spiral, the cost of survival is chillingly laid bare. Kitchen sink drama meets post-apocalyptic horror, The Hunger is about morality and motherhood at the end of the world.

With underlying environmentalist commentary, the show straddles the lines of all-out horror and the gritty reality of rural life.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - An absolute must-see (Broadway Baby)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - An extraordinary and strange production (Starburst Magazine)

The Company

Black Bright is an award-winning independent theatre company based in Sheffield, specialising in female-led horror for the stage. It is entirely ran by Producer and Company Manager Helen Denning, and Artistic Director and Writer Madeleine Farnhill, who met at the student theatre company of the University of Sheffield.

Our history with the Fringe

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival has been key to our journey as a company so far and in building our existing, incredible audience.

In 2023 we made our Fringe debut with the a 55 minute version of The Hunger, a show we had previously cut down from a full length production of over 2 hours! The production recieved an OffFest nomination and a collection of 4 & 5 star reviews.

In 2024 we returned to the fringe complete with Keep it Fringe Funding for our brand new production Birdwatching, which was an OffFest FINALIST, received twelve 4 and 5 stat reviews, and a transfer to the Chengdu-Chongqing International Theatre Festival in China.

We sadly had to miss Ed Fringe 2025 due to financial constraints and prioritising touring performances of Birdwatching, but we’re BACK for Fringe 2026!

Any support you can give will mean the world, and go directly towards us bringing world class horror theatre to the stages of Edinburgh Fringe Festival. ✨
