We're fundraising to take our show 'Birthday Girl' to Fringe 2022. It amplifies queer voices and was created by an all female/queer team.

If we were to raise additional funds, these would be allocated towards performing more shows at this years fringe, allowing us to reach a larger audience and spread the queer voice even further.

'Birthday Girl' was written by Rosa Gatley and first performed as part of the University of Manchester Drama Societies Autumn Fringe Festival. Not only does the show give a much needed platform for queer voices but it was also created, developed and performed by an all female and all queer team.

As a student team, we're working within a very small budget, therefore, we are fundraising for our venue fees and other compulsory fees. As we're so passionate about this project, we're paying our own travel and accommodation fees, and would only be using any funds raised to secure a venue as well as the Fringe registration fee and publicity. Publicity is very important to our show as we want to reach as many people as we can to continue towards amplifying these voices.

The show itself is a celebration of queer voices, feminism and ABBA.

The show was received extremely well during its first run and has allowed us to build a presence in the UoM community. Audience members very much resonated with the early queer experience that is explored. The show was also noted as being refreshing as it is a queer show that isn't explicitly about being queer. Therefore, 'Birthday Girl' works towards normalising these queer voices.

One of the reasons we want to take the show to the Fringe is that we feel it would resonate with a more diverse audience than just students, due to its universal themes of growing up and considering your place in the world.

Anything you could donate at all would be so appreciated and would make a huge difference in us being able to make it to the Fringe!
