Aim

Help us bring Daniel McVey's new camp interactive comedy to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2026!

'A Foot is Not an Appropriate Prize for the Tombola' is coming to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2026!!!

We are so so excited to have been offered a slot at Pleasance Courtyard for the full month and absolutely can’t wait for audiences to watch and engage with the show. This is a proper pinch me moment! However, Edinburgh is expensive, and I can’t get the show there without your support.

I've been absolutely blown away by the response to the show so far, so following a number of extracts performed at scratch nights across the East Midlands, we’re ready to bring the full show to a wider audience. We’ve already got previews of the show planned for the Midlands this July, and the show is being supported by Curve, Leicester, but as a self-funded show, the money raised in this crowdfunder is really important in going towards the many costs of taking a show to Edinburgh; including marketing, venue costs, PR, transport, accommodation and more.

ABOUT THE SHOW

“I’m not in the regular habit of putting dismembered body parts as prizes for my stalls. Unless I’m put in charge of the meat raffle, then that's all dismembered body parts.”

After a severed foot is found in the box of one of the tombola prizes, the Greenwold village fete is thrown into disarray. But Lydia, who runs the tombola stall, is determined not to let it ruin the day. As she pushes on, the revelations get even more bizarre, and as Lydia attempts to work out ‘whodunnit’, it appears there might be a more horrific truth to the village, and the fete than anyone realised.

A camp comedic interactive murder mystery written and performed by ‘vibrant storyteller’ Daniel McVey where audience volunteers become the other characters, suspects and even the police officer. Inspired by the worlds of cozy crime and cosmic horror, prepare to be intrigued, entertained, and leave questioning the wild world we live in.

Lydia is ready to welcome you to the village green, so why not see if you can help her to discover the mysteries of the tombola (and maybe you can win a prize while you’re at it!).

“Here we find an actor and writer who should be blinking on the radar of every curious theatre-goer”

AUDIENCE RESPONSES from a WIP sharing and scratch performances

  • “Such a spectacular production which I have completely fallen in love with”
  • “A really fun take on the murder mystery genre, with such a clever engaging storyline and genuinely non-awkward audience participation which adds so much to the show.”
  • “Such a funny and clever show, that knows exactly what it is”
  • “the point at which you stop laughing is when you realise how clever it’s been”

WHY EDINBURGH?

Edinburgh is a unique opportunity that will provide invaluable professional development (not in the least because this will be the longest run of one my shows yet), and give the chance to directly engage with a variety of audiences and creatives. It is where the show belongs, and its camp and irreverent comedy style has the potential to do well. Edinburgh gives me the opportunity to raise my profile as a creative and take the next step in my career. I have been building up to this point for years and this is the right time, and the right show, to be taking this leap.

YOUR DONATIONS WILL SUPPORT

The £5000 we hope to raise in this crowdfunder is about a third of the overall costs of taking the show to Edinburgh (I know it’s outrageous!) but this would be a fantastic start in helping us achieve our goals. Your donations will go directly towards funding:

  • Venue and registration costs
  • Marketing (digital, flyers, etc.)
  • PR
  • Accomodation for the month
  • Travel
  • Props and set pieces
  • Paying those involved in the show

This crowdfunder is a part of a wider fundraising campaign for the show. Alongside this I will be running a number of other fundraising events including four writing workshops which you can book onto here.

THANK YOU!

Thank you so much for reading and your continued engagement with the show, it’s a piece of work that I really believe in, and that I believe really represents me as a creative. I’m incredibly excited to be brining 'A Foot is Not an Appropriate Prize for the Tombola' to such an amazing venue at such a fabulous festival. This truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I can’t do it without you.

No donation amount is too small, and if you’re unable to donate at this time, please consider sharing this fundraiser with your friends and family.

Thank you,

Love you lots,

Dan xx
