Aim

I’m chasing a long-held dream to get back on stage at The Edinburgh Fringe. My first (and last until now) Fringe solo show was back in 1982.

Why should you help to fund my dream? I really don’t know! But, after I touted the idea of doing it as a birthday fundraiser, many people have kindly said they would like to and I’m hugely grateful for that, as it is an expensive dream to fulfil. I’ve chosen to do the show this year because I’ve just reached pension age and plan to use my pension to fund it, while continuing to work for a living. If I can raise a little extra from other sources, that will certainly help. Of course, I will sell tickets for the show but they may not cover costs.

I’ve always been fascinated by the fact that, with over 3,000 shows to choose from each year, every individual’s experience of The Fringe is unique, even just as a punter. And there are so many different ways to participate. I have been a performer, writer, director, producer, Box Office Employee, Street Team Manager and flyerer.

A couple of years ago, I hit on the idea of doing a show based around my many and varied Edinburgh Fringe experiences. This is that show, which I’m presenting within the framework of time travelling back to a range of years between 1979 and 2021.

What will I do with the money? The show itself is very low budget with minimal set, costume and props. The hire of my 60-seat theatre for a daily 50-minute performance for 21 days costs over £5,000. There will also be box office commission on ticket sales. The other main expenses are the Fringe Registration fee, travel, accommodation and marketing. Any money donated will go towards these costs.
